 UKAS is recognized by the British Government as the sole national body responsible for assessing and accrediting the competence of organizations in the fields of measurement, testing, inspection and certification of systems, products and personnel. UKAS is a non-profit organization, limited by guarantee, and operates under a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government, through the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, U.K.
Accreditation by UKAS is the key to ensuring that consumers, suppliers, purchasers and other stakeholders to have confidence in the quality of goods and in the provision of services throughout the supply chain. It demonstrates an organization's competence, impartiality and capability, and helps to underpin the credibility of performance, goods and services in both UK and international arenas.
UKAS was the first such body formed to regulate certification bodies & registrars such as United Registrars of Systems Limited.
URS is accredited by UKAS for various management system certifications like QMS, EMS, FSMS, ISMS, HACCP, etc.
